Six Pembrokeshire public toilets to close this week - and 20p charges to be introduced at others
Has the law has been changed recently? It used to be illegal for Local Authorities to charge for men to urinate, that is why years ago in Public Toilets, when entering the Gentlemen's side of the toilet, there was always an area with urinals that were free to use, but you had to go pay to go through a turnstile to use the WCs.
When the Equal Opportunities Law was passed it became illegal to charge women to urinate, so the charges to use Public Toilets were removed. This meant that Local Authorities were having to pay all of the costs associated with running the toilets, but gained no income from them.
Private companies can legally charge for use of the facilities.

Pembrokeshire County Council set to increase car parking charges

Malcolm, the death of the high street did not start in 1964. It has been caused by the move to out of town with larger and larger supermarkets selling more and more non foods, followed by other shops into shopping centres and retail parks, what do all these 'out of town' places have in common - FREE PARKING.
The Mary Portas review highlighted parking charges as one of the main reasons people do not visit town centres. What do PCC do, put parking charges up, and unbelievably they also continue to provide a FREE bus to the 'out of town' retail park in Withybush Haverfordwest.
