CARDIGAN’S Theatr Mwldan is excited to welcome National Dance Company Wales to the stage on Thursday, November 16 at 7.30pm, where they will perform four short, sharp contemporary dances as part of their new show – Roots.

The company has toured all over the world but Roots is a bit different. This tour has been crafted for community theatres in the heart of their homeland: to celebrate their Welsh roots.

These new and exciting performances have rich stories to tell. The first, Beside Himself is a duet by the company’s artistic director, Caroline Finn and is about a man’s ego and alter ego struggling to exist side by side in the body.

Caroline’s second piece of dance, Animatorium sees a troupe of characters brought to life and controlled by a charming Master, until his puppets start an uprising. Animatorium is quirky and powerful with carnival inspired music.

The third part, They Seek to Find the Happiness They Seem is described as a jigsaw puzzle of snippets from classic love stories and famous dance couples, like Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire.

A moving piece of dance that really tugs at the heart strings by rehearsal director, Lee Johnston.

And finally, Omertà, has been created by ex-NDCWales dancer Matteo Marfoglia and it explores the role of women in Italian Mafia society and their route to freedom.

A resident company at Wales Millienium Centre, NDCW has been based in Wales since its beginnings in 1983 (formerly known as Diversions). It has performed pieces by established, international choreographers in venues across the UK and internationally.

The company is known for producing shows that provide an introduction to the artform in an open, relaxed environment.

“In their artistic director Caroline Finn they have a world-class creative talent,” says Wales Art Review.

“A timely reminder that much of the most important British dance theatre is happening far from London,” adds The Guardian.

Tickets to see Roots are £14 (£13) £3 mates rates* and are available to book from Theatr Mwldan’s box office on 01239 621200, online or via smart phone at www.mwldan.co.uk or via the new Mwldan app.
