CÔR Teifi, the Cardigan-based choir, is now in the final stages of preparing for its next concert.

It will present a mixed programme of choral music for Lent under the leadership of well-known local musician Margaret Daniel, who has founded and conducted numerous award-winning choral societies both in the UK and overseas.

The concert, which will also include solos from choir members and others, will take place in St Mary’s Church, Cardigan at 7.30pm on Friday, April 12. Tickets are £8 at the door.

There will be a retiring collection in aid of HUTS (Help Us to Survive), the Newcastle Emlyn charity, which offers a variety of opportunities to adults from Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire, and North Pembrokeshire who have mental health challenges or learning difficulties.

Their workshop in the town was badly affected by the devastating floods of October 2018.

In the first half of the concert Côr Teifi will sing Stainer’s Crucifixion. The solos will be taken by Efan Willams of Lledrod, six times winner of the tenor solo at the National Eisteddfod, and Barry Powell, who when he isn’t running his family forestry business near Aberystwyth takes part in many local and national musical activities.

Sarah-Jane Absalom, who previously worked for a number of TV and recording companies and who is now organist at St Mary’s Church, will accompany.

After the interval, the choir, supported by Rosalind Powell on the piano, will sing Corelli’s Ave Verum, Ble Roe’t Ti? (Were You There?) arranged by Alan Smith and with Welsh words by John Stoddart, O Saviour of the World by John Goss, Forty Days and Forty Nights arranged by Harrison Oxley, and Angel Roll the Stone Away arranged by local composer and choir member, Alun Rhys Williams.

Alun and baritone David Child will sing the solo parts in his arrangement.

Soloists Efan Williams and Barry Powell will sing “Y Ddau Forwr” (“The Two Sailors”) as a duet, and choir members Jenny Ingall, Kathleen Finlayson and Jean Smith will play a trio by Handel.
