THE story of Shakespeare’s star-crossed lovers Romeo and Juliet is brought to life once again by the Royal Ballet and you can enjoy this stunning performance from the comfort of Theatr Mwldan’s cinema at Cardigan on Tuesday, June 11 (7.15pm).

Shakespeare’s enduring love story is known the world over. Since its 1965 premiere with The Royal Ballet, Kenneth MacMillan’s Romeo and Juliet has become a modern ballet classic.

The choreography captures the emotions of the young couple as they fall in love, despite the barriers that finally bring about the story’s tragic end.

Each revival gives opportunities for new dancers to interpret the doomed lovers.

The whole company brings the colour and action of Renaissance Verona, where a busy market all too quickly bursts into sword fighting, and a family feud leads to tragedy for both the Montagues and Capulets.

“Stunningly swoonsome study of wide-eyed love,” writes The Guardian, while The Independent says: “Kenneth MacMillan’s Romeo and Juliet returns to The Royal Ballet in stirring form.

“From the star-crossed lovers of Lauren Cuthbertson and Matthew Ball to the bite of the sword fights, it’s an urgent blend of lyricism, storytelling and feeling.”

Tickets for Royal Opera House screenings are £16 (£15) and are available now from Theatr Mwldan’s box office on 01239 621200, online at mwldan.co.uk or via the Mwldan app.
