MORE than 150 musicians are heading for Pembrokeshire as Fishguard gears up for its annual Aberjazz Fishguard Jazz and Blues Festival.

The fun starts on Thursday, August 22, in Ffwrn at 1pm and continues until late on Bank Holiday Monday with 23 main events and 17 Aberjazz Fringe events making a total of 34 acts and over 150 musicians for five days of great music.

You can expect just about everything that jazz and blues can throw at you, from vaudeville to funk, jazz to rock including swing, trad, blues, gypsy jazz and ska, by some of the finest musicians in Wales, England, Ireland and further afield, old friends and new friends.

On the bank holiday Sunday you can experience a New Orleans style jazz parade, with a touch of Welsh class.

Bring your umbrellas, hats and fancy dress and dance your way round the streets of Fishguard to the sounds of Wonderbrass and their intoxicating mix of jazz, Latin, ska, pop, township and soul performed on trumpets, flutes, trombones, saxophones, guitar and drums.

Tickets vary from £7.50 to £15 with most events costing just £10 and the Aberjazz Fringe events are free, though organisers do ask you to make a donation to the bucketeers.

Tickets are available from at aberjazz.com and from Seaways Bookshop in West Street in Fishguard.

Tickets will also be available in Ffwrn, from 11am each morning during the festival weekend and on the door – but punters are advised to get tickets early to avoid disappointment.

Accompanied children are welcome and under-16s are free to all daytime events.

There is a number of free workshops, including singing, harmonica and African drum and you can even build and play your own three-string canjo guitar for just £10.

Details about all the artists appearing at the festival can be found on the website, where you can also access YouTube links.
