Dear editor,

Last week the Dutch went to the polls. Nothing unusual about that, except for the first time a party dedicated solely to the rights of animals won two seats and just missed out on a third.

The party in question is called The Party for the Animals and has only been in existence for three years.

In Britain we have many parties but no true animal friendly parties, Labour run with friendly policies and then conveniently ignore them and the Tories don't even pretend to be animal friendly.

It is time we follow the example of the Dutch and form a party dedicated to animal rights.
