THE closure of a counselling charity which provides a vital lifeline to hundreds of people has been averted, thanks to a £4,000 donation.
The generosity of Hywel Davies, 59, of Milford Haven, means Pembrokeshire Counselling Service (PCS) will remain open.
Mr Davies, a retired Spanish lecturer, contacted the Western Telegraph after reading that PCS was facing closure.
“Mental health is an important issue in Pembrokeshire,” said Mr Davies, who has experienced mental health issues and volunteers for a number of mental health groups.
“It’s something that’s really close to my heart,” he added.
Earlier this month (November), PCS leader Peter Sargent warned the charity could close unless Hywel Dda Health Board provided “significant funding”.
About 80% of the charity’s clients are referred directly from GPs.
Significant and regular funding is still needed to secure a long-term future.
