THE jury trying two men for the murder of Dean Evans, in Pembroke, heard eye witness testimony from beyond the grave, yesterday.

Junior counsel for the prosecution, Patrick Griffiths convinced the judge Mr Justice Field, to allow a statement by Lisa Miller to be read to the jury even though she had since died.

The prosecution claims Lee Carter, aged 23, of Devon Drive, and a juvenile who cannot be named kicked Mr Evans to death late on August 12 when "trivial banter" turned to violence as he walked along Devon Drive, with his girlfriend.

Lisa Miller made two statements to police soon after the killing.

Swansea Crown Court heard Lisa was at home when she heard a female screaming and went out into the road.

She told police at the time: "I could see someone lying in the road. A female was on the floor next to him. I ran over to them. I knew it was Carly Clark. She had blood on her face, in hand prints, and her hair was stuck to her face.

"The male had blood coming from his mouth. His nose looked as if it had been pushed upwards. It was if he was gasping for air."

In a second statement Lisa said Carter told her at the at the scene that he had hit Mr Evans and knocked him out and the juvenile ran off.

On Tuesday, another witness Hazel Jenkins described the killing as the worst thing I have ever seen in my whole life.' The juvenile is accused of hitting Mr Evans on the head with a bag containing cans of lager.

The prosecution claims both accused are equally responsible for Mr Evans' death, irrespective of who delivered the fatal blow.

Mrs Jenkins told the court she had been out with her husband when the incident occurred.

She said she saw both men kicking Mr Evans, she added that the stocky one had been repeatedly jumping off the pavement onto his face.

She said: "The stocky one came over to the car. His fists were clenched and he was frothing at the mouth. He was looking at me in rage. I told my husband to drive off. I could not believe what I was seeing."

She returned to the scene later with a nurse, she said: "The stocky one was still there. He was laughing. As soon as he saw me he went berserk and said that is the woman who saw me kicking the boy to death."

Mrs Jenkins picked out both defendants in an identity parade.

Both men deny murder. The trial continues.
