West End star and former Mercury talent show winner, Connie Fisher, performed at the Princess Diana memorial concert on Sunday.

Connie won the Mercury talent show just after turning 18, but even then her talent shone through.

Mercury talent show organiser, Jeff Dunn said: "Connie was extremely ambitious and hardworking."

The Sound of Music star from Hayscastle, sang Memory, from Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical Cats, at the Diana Memorial Concert.

Princes William and Harry requested Memory because it was their mother's favourite song.

The tune, made famous by Elaine Page, was performed by the 24-year-old at the event on Sunday, which would have been Diana's 46th birthday.

Despite winning the How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria? BBC contest, in which Lord Lloyd Webber was a judge, Sunday was the first time Connie had publicly performed one of his songs.

Connie was also joined onstage by Lee Mead, about to take the lead in West End hit Joseph after winning BBC1's Any Dream Will Do.

Connie has received rave reviews since winning the part of Maria Von Trapp in The Sound of Music in London's West End.

The show has been extended until February 3 2008, when Connie will make her final appearance as Maria Von Trapp.
