MORE than ten Pembrokeshire community groups are vying for funding from the insurance giant Aviva, including a vegetable garden at Milford Haven School, and new facilities for the sea cadets.

The Aviva Community Fund has opened voting to members of the public this week (October 25) and three Milford Haven projects are asking for public support to make their ideas a reality.

Milford Haven school are looking for £1,000-£5,000 for a community vegetable garden on site to support families that are unable to grow their own.

In their application they said: “Many low income families in our area, as well as lacking the funds for fresh healthy food, also lack the outdoor space to grow their own fruit and vegetables.

“And so with an abundance of space on school site it would be wonderful to utilise our land in such a productive way, directly impacting our catchment area.”

Milford Haven Gymnastics Club have applied for £5,000-£10,000 to replace the carpet in their gym, which they hope would give their 250 members a more pleasant practice space.

“We would love to have a better floor area because the one we have now is old worn and a bit grim!

“It would be brilliant to provide our gymnasts with a beautiful new floor which could help them flourish as gymnasts and give them a good sense of well-being!” they said in their application.

Milford Haven sea cadets and royal marine cadets are hoping to update their toilet facilities on Milford seafront so that they include showers and new toilets.
