Hundreds of people turned out to meet West End star Connie Fisher returning to the county for the first time since winning BBC one talent contest How do you solve a problem like Maria' last week.

The Merc's Jeff Dunn worked with Connie on local productions before her West End success, and described the transformation after meeting her again on Friday.

Jeff said: "When I had last spoken to her in March 2005, I'd been talking to a willowy, rather pale looking young girl, obviously talented, yet somehow unsure of herself and her future."

"Now two years later, I met a stunning young woman, with an aura filled with magical stardust surrounding her, confident and assured, and glorifying in the adulation she now receives.

"Her smile is the same, and she has no airs and graces."

After being reunited with Connie and providing her with a copy of the Merc, Jeff chatted with the West End star on her success and said: "I told you so."

Connie said: "Jeff, I still cant believe it."

Around 250 people queued outside Victoria Book shop in Haverfordwest on Friday and were rewarded with autographs and pictures with The Sound of Music' star.

Marley Davies of Victoria Bookshop said: "It was the best signing session that we have had.

"It was great, she is a major star and she has a great affinity with the county.

"Local people either know her or voted for her on the show."

Connie later spent the afternoon meeting fans on the Riverside in Haverfordwest.

Jeff added: "If anyone is living proof that dreams can come true, it's Connie Fisher."

As a former pupil of Hayscastle school, Connie also had the honour of opening the school fete last weekend, which was in celebration of the 130th anniversary of the school opening, Did you meet the West End star? You can leave your comments below.
