PUPILS from Milford Haven School were among those to take part in a cutting-edge science event at Pembrokeshire College.

The children were joined by students from Tasker Milward, Sir Thomas Picton and Pembroke for the Darwin Centre's Gene Park Roadshow.

More than 150 young people heard from speakers Dr Hannah West, Dr Karen Reed and Dr David Wilcockson as they explained genetic and genome research.

The lectures form part of the Dragon LNG Darwin Experience education programme developed and delivered by the Darwin Centre in Pembrokeshire.

The projects hosts field trips, workshops and lectures, available to all schools in Pembrokeshire for free.

It reaches around 2,000 pupils every year, with more 37,000 participants since the programme started in 2005.

Darwin Centre director Marten Lewis said: "The partnership, supported by Dragon LNG, Pembrokeshire College, and Pembrokeshire County Council, is reaching an unprecedented number of young people in Pembrokeshire.

"It’s a great honour to be involved in such a fantastic project, reaching so many young minds, raising aspiration around science, engineering, technology and maths."
