CANNON fire from the Old Fort last Tuesday made sure an event to celebrate the Last Invasion of Britain went with a bang.

Before the big bang Fishguard's Jemima, aka Kay Roach, led a parade from the Golden Mile to the Gorsedd Circle.

At the stone circle historian Richard Davies recounted the story of the Last Invasion while Gary Jones gave a history of the Old Fort and its cannons.

Shortly before midday the Pembrokeshire flag was raised from the Old Fort and at noon the crowd saw a flash of fire and plume of smoke from the fort, as cannon fire resonated across the bay.

Delila Evans won first prize for her Welsh lady costume and took home £50 donated by the Chamber of Trade.

Tuesday's event is the starting point for a big celebration planned for 2022, which will mark the 225th anniversary of the Last Invasion.

Over the next four years an annual event that marks the anniversary is planned building year on year.

Among events planned for 2022 is a full scale re-enactment by the Napoleonic society.
