Pembrokeshire County Council staff have played a vital role over the past couple of days in helping emergency workers continue their duties despite the bad weather.

The 4x4 service - co-ordinated in County Hall, Haverfordwest, by members of the Authority’s Emergency Planning team – has enabled essential workers such as hospital staff, carers and meals on wheels volunteers to get to their place of work by organising drivers and transport.

The team have been able to access a number of 4x4 vehicles needed in the icy conditions.

Said the Council’s Chief Executive, Ian Westley: “As well as our staff, we have also have had Elected members volunteering to drive and also offering their vehicles as well as members of the public who are trained drivers.”

Other organisations which have provided drivers and vehicles include:

· Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority

· Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service

· Natural Resources Wales

· Maritime and Coastguard Agency

· 4x4 Response Wales

Mr Westley added: “It is a good example of the public sector working together to maintain urgently needed services. I would like to place on record my thanks to all involved in the operation.”
