A TOUCH of New York dancefloor glamour is on its way to Fishguard’s Theatr Gwaun and you could help make it happen.

Silver Screen Ballroom, stars Lou Brockman and Heather Gehring professional dancers who often grace the stage at from New York's Carnegie Hall as well as with Boardwalk Empire’s Vince Giordano.

The couple are in the UK thanks to an invitation from Fishguard musician, singer and bandleader, Tony Jacobs.

Tony came across Lou and Heather while he was singing at Vince Giordano’s show in New York last January.

“They are phenomenal dancers and lovely people,” said Tony who booked them for a festival he was organising in Nottinghamshire.

“I thought ‘why not bring them to Fishguard?’” said Tony. “There is a Fishguard-New York connection and this is an opportunity not to be missed.”

Lou and Heather have gained accolades from Hollywood greats, with Liza Minnelli saying of them:

“I haven't seen dancing like this since my mother (Judy Garland) danced with Fred Astaire in the movies.”

With Mel Brooks adding:

“You're smooth and graceful but when you got to be hot you're hot."

The couple will offer to share their magic in a dance workshop for young local dancers, aged 10-15 on the afternoon of their visit on Saturday, May 19.

This will run from 2pm until 3.30pm. Participants will have the chance to take part in a number in the Silver Screen Ballroom Show and front row tickets to this are included in the £15 cost of the workshop.

The show itself will take place from 7.30pm on the same day.

Stena line has offered some sponsorship to support this unique event in Fishguard and Tony, who has organised hot jazz and cabaret events all over the country for decades, is looking for other companies that might be able to support the event in return for an acknowledgement of their contribution.

“All help is very welcome,” he said. “If we ended up going into profit on this show I would like to use it to bring something else to Fishguard.”
