COMMUNITIES from across the Tivyside area came together today on the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War to remember the fallen.
In Cardigan, there was a large attendance from all generations at the town’s cenotaph to pay their respects to those who had lost their lives in conflicts over the years.
The service was conducted by the Reverend John Bennett and wreaths were laid by both groups and individuals, led by the deputy lord lieutenant David Lewis, Dyfed high sheriff Stephen Mansel Davies and Mayor of Cardigan Cllr John Adams-Leis.
As the wreaths were laid, the roll call of the fallen was read out – 93 from the First World War, 49 from the Second World War, one from the Falklands and two from Afghanistan.
The two-minute silence was impeccably observed and the Last Post and the Reveille was played by Cpl Iwan Griffiths.
Cor Undebol Ar Ol Tri sang ‘In Flanders Fields’ in a moving tribute to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
A special souvenir order of service to mark the centenary of the end of the First World War was printed. It is available from the clerk of Cardigan Town Council –phone 01239 612932.
