A MILFORD Haven carpenter and his business partner have made a Christmas decoration for public garden in tribute to his late father.

Rob and Steve Davies, owners at the joinery shop Davies and Davies, offered to make a new Christmas Crib to stand in the Rotary garden at the junction of Steynton and Castle Pill Road.

In the 1980s, Rob’s father made a Christmas manger which still stands in the town's Memorial Gardens opposite the town hall to this day, and despite being offered payment by local Rotarians Joe Mayne and Mike Peak, he offered his services for free.

“I am absolutely delighted that we are putting a crib at the entrance to the town at the garden,” said Joe Mayne.

“It has become a nice focal point and that these two lads have taken the trouble when business is struggling to make something for free which would have cost a lot of money is fantastic.”

The Rotary garden is maintained by volunteers from the local rotary club, who also managed to find nativity figures which will decorate the inside of the Christmas crib.

On Saturday, December 8 the mayor of Milford Haven, Cllr Rose Gray will unveil the new crib display at 4pm, with a dedication by the vicar of St Peter and St Cerwydd, John Cecil.

This will be followed by refreshments in the church hall.
