MORE than 70 new council houses could be built on former school sites in the Milford Haven area.
Pembrokeshire County Council plans the “appropriation” of the former Hakin junior and infant school sites as well as the former Hubberston school site from the general fund to its Housing Revenue Account (HRA).
A similar transfer was authorised last month at Tenby’s Brynhir and the former Johnston School site.
In Milford Haven the three sites are valued at £330,000 for Hubberston where 30 properties are proposed, £200,000 for Hakin Infants with 15 properties and £190,000 for the junior school site, which also has potential for extra land to be included so could see 14 to 28 houses built.
Cabinet was told on Monday (December 3) this could see its value rise to £350,000 and an “overage” or ‘claw-back’ clause would be included to cover that situation.
Cabinet member for housing Cllr Pat Davies added: “There are other school sites we can look at but these are the priority, there is a housing need in the area.”
