A CALL for an inquiry in to last month’s flooding in Milford Haven is to be made at Thursday’s December 13 meeting of Pembrokeshire County Council.

Councillor Viv Stoddart will ask: “In view of November’s disastrous flooding in Milford Haven’s Lower Priory and Haven’s Head, serious questions need answers from various agencies as to why the flooding was so extreme and lasted for so long.

“Will the cabinet member for planning and infrastructure host an enquiry in to the devastating floods by inviting the agencies to an open and transparent forum where questions can be put to, and answered by the agencies, followed up by a report to council and the public?”

Glenda German, landlady of the Priory Inn in Milford Haven, was forced from her home in November, due to rapidly rising water.

The flood all but destroyed the ground floor of her business, covering floors, walls and furniture in a thick layer of filth.

Speaking to the Milford Mercury, Glenda said she believed the development of nearby Cedar Court and Haven’s Head retail park sites have exacerbated existing flood problems in the area.

The Port of Milford Haven, which owns both sites, refuted this, saying: “The flooding was not caused by any failure by us to act.

“It was caused by the unfortunate combination of two days of heavy rainfall and extremely high tides."
