A MINIATURE nativity scene, crafted in memory of a local carpenter, has been unveiled in Milford Haven.

The Christmas crib scene in Steynton was built by Rob and Steve Davies, owners of joinery shop Davies and Davies.

In the 1980s, Rob’s father Dai made a Christmas manger which still stands in the gardens to this day.

Despite being offered payment by local Rotarians Joe Mayne and Mike Peak, Rob offered his services for free to update the scene.

“I am absolutely delighted that we are putting a crib at the entrance to the town,” said Joe Mayne.

“It has become a nice focal point, and that these two lads have taken the trouble to make something for free which would have cost a lot of money is fantastic.”

The garden, which also houses a Christmas tree, is maintained by volunteers from Milford Haven Rotary Club who also managed to track down nativity figures to decorate the crib.

A crowd turned out Sunday for the unveiling service, which was led by Rev John Cecil.

Hannah Evans designed the backdrop and a kind neighbour, Lynne Canning, living adjacent to the site, provided the electricity.

Local children were delighted to unveil the crib alongside the Mayor Rose Gray and discover the beautiful figures inside.

After that, everyone retired to the church hall for mince pies and mulled wine.

Community spirit prevails and the local residents would like to thank Joe Mayne and Mike Peake for making Christmas so special.
