TWENTY-four lucky diners enjoyed a slap-up festive dinner on the Mount this week, thanks to pupils and staff at Milford Haven School.

Five sixth form students were supported by teaching staff to plan, cook and serve the meal, as part of their studies.

The event was held at the Mount Community Centre, where a Christmas tree donated by the school helped lend a festive air.

Gemma Baker from Milford Haven School said: "It's been an absolutely brilliant day.

"Events like this are a massive step forward in the school moving out into the community.

"We ask a lot from parents, supporting concerts and fair, and attending parents' evenings, so it's great to give something back.

"We have managed to engage with families on their own doorstep, and we hope this will help us build even stronger links with the community.

"Some of the girls who have helped out today live locally too, so it's great for them."

Gemma said she hoped the school could build on the event's success, and host further events at the centre.

Lynne Turner, who helped run the event at the community centre, said: "Thank you very much to Milford Haven School for having the idea, we hope it's the first of many sort of event at the centre."

Tesco donated food for the day, and students fundraised to cover remaining costs.
