A HAVERFORDWEST used car business is to face a string of charges of selling unsafe vehicles, and engaging in alleged misleading practices in connection with their sales.

Shipmans Lane-based Motec Autos (Pembrokeshire) Ltd is to appear at Haverfordwest magistrates court on Wednesday, January 30, facing charges connected to the sale of four cars.

No pleas have yet been entered.

Director of Motec Autos (Pembrokeshire) Ltd, William Frederick Howlin, whose address is given as Kinniswood, Withybush Road, Haverfordwest, faces charges of, at Shipmans Lane: selling a Audi A4 as ‘trade sale sold as seen and tried,’ a misleading action containing false information, on December 27, 2017 under the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations; a similar charge, under the same regulations, on February 4, 2018, relating to the sale of Mazda MX-5; on February 4, placing an unsafe MX-5 on the market, and a related charge of failing to comply with safety requirements; on February 4, knowingly or recklessly engaging in a commercial practice which contravened the requirements of the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations; and, on, February4, a charge of fraud by false representation, providing an MOT certificate for the MX-5 when it was in an unsafe condition.

Motec Autos (Pembrokeshire) Ltd, whose address is given as Williamston House, Goat Street, Haverfordwest, faces 11 charges.

The charges are: selling a Audi A4 as ‘trade sale sold as seen and tried,’ a misleading action containing false information, on December 27, 2017 under the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations; a similar charge relating to a Mazda MX-5 on February 4; placing an unsafe product, a Vauxhall Astra, on the market, on March 12, 2018; two similar charges relating to Vauxhall Corsas on March 12; failure to ensure compliance with safety requirements relating to the Vauxhall Astra, and a similar two charges relating to the Corsas, all on March 12; placing an unsafe product, a Mazda MX-5, on the market, on February 4, and recklessly engaging in a commercial practice which contravened requirements under the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations.
