AVOIDING scams was the topic of discussion for Milford Haven Probus Club's latest meeting.

Jane Gale and Glenda Thomas of Pembrokeshire County Council Trading Standard’s Consumer Safety section gave a very interesting presentation, which turned into a lively interactive session.

As Jane described the most common current scams by telephone, SMS, email, online, post and doorstep and how to guard against them, members raised questions and shared their experiences.

Despite members’ generally good awareness, more than one member shared their personal experience of falling victim to a scam.

On a more positive note it appeared members were however immune to social media-based scams, as no-one admitted to using it!

If you, a relative, friend or neighbour has been targeted by a scam – even if you did not fall victim – Jane and the team at Trading Standards would like to hear the details.
