A MILFORD Haven cafe is helping rough sleepers stay warm this winter.

The Spinnaker Cafe now has selection of free coats, donated exclusively for homeless people.

The coats and rail were donated by members of the Homeless Pembrokeshire Facebook group, and will be restocked as they are taken.

A rail is also in place at the Coffee Cave in Haverfordwest - which like the Spinnaker also participates in the 'pay it forward' scheme, in which members of the public can pay for an additional meal or hot drink for someone who is homeless.

Carol Thomas, a volunteer with Homeless Pembrokeshire who runs the free coat project, said: "There are similar coat rail schemes running in different parts of the country.

"It seemed like such a good idea and one way to help the homeless - and others in need - to keep warm, so we decided to set up something similar in Pembrokeshire."

She added: "We are very grateful to the Coffee Cave and Spinnaker Café for allowing us to put a rail on their premises."

If you would like to help, you can donate coats (they must be clean and in good condition, with all zips and buttons in working order) by contacting Carol via the Homeless Pembrokeshire Facebook page.

Other local businesses taking part in the 'pay it forward' scheme include Subway in Milford Haven and Haverfordwest, Mosaic Cafe in Neyland, and Bush Hill Service Station.
