A VILLAGE shop is doing its bit to help combat plastic pollution.

Siop-y-Pentre at Cilgerran is now stocking a wide range of eco products and customers are also being encouraged to bring in bottles and jars for refillable products such as washing up liquid, soaps and laundry products

Customers can also now stock up on many of their favourite basic staples from the zero waste section, where they again bring their own containers or bags to buy foodstuffs such as raisins, chick peas, organic muesli, pulses and a host of other dry foodstuffs.

“To be honest, we cannot believe how popular it is proving,” said shop owner Nia Morris.

“Many people want to reduce the amount of plastic waste they produce and this is one way we can help out. We did a poll to find out what people want and from that feedback, we will decide what to sell.

“The response has been amazing. I know there are already shops around the area doing this but it is all about giving people a choice and a chance to buy products without all the plastic packaging.

“And the fact we have had such a positive reaction is fantastic for the future. We need to reduce our use of single-use plastic.”
