A Milford Haven man broke a shop’s window while arguing with his girlfriend.

Steven Robert Picton, of Vivian Drive, pleaded guilty to causing £150 of criminal damage when he appeared before Haverfordwest magistrates on Monday, March 25.

The court heard that Picton, 30, had been out with his girlfriend when they argued in a Fishguard street on February 4, 2018.

Vaughan Pritchard-Jones, prosecuting, said: “In his frustration he punched a window he was standing next to.”

Picton was identified by blood which he had left at the scene, and the shop owner stated that she was happy not to pursue a prosecution as long as he paid for the damage.

The bench heard that Picton was granted given an extension when he was unable to pay, but the case had been sent to court when he failed to reimburse the owner.

Mr Pritchard-Jones said: “He is basically here because he did not pay the £150.”

Jonathan Webb, defending, said: “He did not have the money at the time. He accepted punching an inanimate object during an argument with his girlfriend.”

He added that Picton, who had no previous convictions, had now secured employment as a scaffolder’s labourer.

Magistrates fined him Picton £120 and ordered him to pay £150 compensation, £85 costs and a £30 surcharge.
