Milford Haven's new mayor has been selected, and he wants to focus on helping the youth and the elderly.

Councillor Terry Davies and Cllr Kathy Gray were selected as mayor and deputy mayor for 2019/20 at a council meeting on Monday, April 29.

Both Cllr Davies and Cllr Gray said they were excited to be taking on their roles.

“I’m really looking forward to it,” Cllr Davies said. “I never thought I would be mayor.

"I have seen so many changes over the years, I want to be part of those changes."

The mayor-elect said he was still considering which charities he would pick to donate to this year.

“Mayors usually pick two charities,” Cllr Davies said.

“I’m going to try to do things for the youth and for the elderly. I haven’t picked which charities yet, I will be making my decision over the year as I go round meeting people.

“I’ve got some in mind, there’s so many of them I would like to help, I don’t want to stick to one."

Cllr Davies encouraged the people of Milford to get in touch with him if they needed help, or even if they're having a 100th birthday.

“I would like to make myself available to the people of Milford Haven over the year - I want to get involved," he said.

“I have always been Milford born and bred. I want to talk to as many people as I can and point out that it’s not all negative, there’s a lot of good here.”

Cllr Davies thanked the outgoing mayor Rose Gray for her work over the last year and wished her the best.

Deputy mayor-elect Cllr Kathy Gray said: “I’m really looking forward to it, I’m so chuffed I can’t believe it.

“I love Milford, it’s people are the salt of the earth, everyone helps everybody.

“I will do my best and I hope to serve them all.”

Cllrs Davies and Gray will take over their new roles at the council's AGM on May 20.
