Plans are moving ahead for the £23million redevelopment of Milford Haven School.

Contractors will be invited to tender for the 21st Century band b project following approval by cabinet on Monday (July 1).

A proposal from May’s full council that the potential learning resource centre (LRC) be treated as a separate project was rejected to avoid delaying it and increased costs.

A consultation on the LRC is currently being carried out and results due in November.

A report to cabinet states that the approved budget for Milford Haven School is £23.8million and this money would have to be split or additional funding identified if the LRC was treated separately.

It is included in the outline business case for the redevelopment and rewriting it would cause a delay, while a business justification case for the LRC will be prepared following the public consultation.

Following the cabinet’s approval the local authority intends to proceed to tender in September, after the submission of the outline business case to Welsh Government in August.

A decision from Cardiff would be expected in October and if there are any issues that would allow the council to stop the tender without cost.
