THE bid to revitalise Newcastle Emlyn and Adpar Tennis Club is set to take its next step forward.

The historic club, which can trace its origins back to 1878, looked set to fold as interest has significantly declined in recent years with membership numbers plummeting and the three courts falling into disrepair.

But following a public meeting at Cawdor Hall, which saw several people come forward who are keen to revive its flagging fortunes, the club is to hold an open day on Saturday, July 20, from 10am-4pm, at its courts adjacent to the bowls and football clubs, bottom end of the main Mart car park.

Come and have a free serious or fun game, racquets and balls provided together with drinks, barbecue and, of course, strawberries and cream.

So if you fancy having a go at tennis after Wimbledon, pop on down and have a knockabout.

There will be special membership offers on the day - £15 for a family, £10 for an adult and £5 for juniors/guests and students

The club was buoyant in the early-mid 2000’s - LTA affiliated - with a membership of around 60, regularly playing matches and with a thriving junior section and coach.
