She was sent a letter from the Queen congratulating her on her 100 years and also received a telegram from Amber Rudd, Secretary of State for Works and Pensions.

Helen lived and worked in Pembrokeshire for many years, finishing her career in boating at Neyland’s Brunel Chandlery in 2016.

At the time, the Milford Mercury reported on her retirement at the age of 97.

The Milford Mercury reported on Helen's retirement in 2016.

“Until this summer, the nautical nonagenarian worked five days a week, sharing almost 60 years of marine expertise with customers,” said the report.

“Helen has gained a reputation as a nautical guru and all-around sailing expert.”

Originally from Hertfordshire, Helen worked boating for many years, from boat building in Essex, to managing Lawrenny Yacht Station in 1970.

She then went to Jenkins Boats in Burton, and then to the Brunel Chandlery, where she remained for nearly 30 years, meeting Prince Charles in the process when he visited Brunel Quay.

In 2016 at the age of 97 Helen eventually decided to retire from full-time employment and a few months later she moved to Eye, in Suffolk to live near her eldest daughter Christine.

On Sunday, June 30, Christine organised a party for her at the Oaksmere Hotel and Restaurant in Eye, where 22 relatives and friends turned up to help her celebrate her achievement.
