A DRIVER has escaped a ban under the totting up process after being caught speeding at Newcastle Emlyn.
Alexander Terence Martin, of The Avenue, Sale, Greater Manchester, was clocked driving a Mini Countryman at 44mph in a 30mph zone on the A484 Cardigan Road, Newcastle Emlyn, on June 18.
The case against the 48-year-old was proved at an earlier hearing under the single justice procedure and Martin was back before Llanelli Magistrates’ Court in person as he faced a possible driving ban.
But magistrates decided against imposing a ban on hearing mitigating circumstances on the impact it would have on Martin losing his job and being unable to pay the rent on his family’s home.
Instead, they fined him £768, with £85 costs and a £76 victim surcharge. Four penalty points were also added to his driving licence. Martin can pay off the fine at £80 per month.
