IMPROVEMENTS to Cardigan skatepark carried out last summer have gone slightly over budget – but the town council has agreed to stump up the shortfall.

Councillors heard that grants totalling £52,000 had been secured for the scheme over the last three years to carry out refurbishment work and upgrade the skatepark and now an extra £530 was needed to pay the contractor’s final bill.

Cllr Clive Davies said: “The overspend is £530 but we have managed to do something which would have cost us so much more without the grants and which we would never have managed.

“We secured one of the last European grants and a lot of positive things have come from the project, with the setting up of the Friends of Cardigan Skatepark committee and the way the site is now run and managed.

“Even more events are now being planned for this summer.”

Cardigan mayor Cllr Shan Williams said: “It has taken three years to do this and things change and prices go up.

“In my opinion I still think it is really good value. It is only a one per cent overspend and I think it has been an excellent project.”

The council agreed to approve the extra £530 expenditure.
