Two Romanian men have appeared in court after attempting to carry out a string of sleight of hand thefts in Pembrokeshire last week.
Ion Anghel Si Muntean and Sandu Dumitru appeared before magistrates at Llanelli on Monday to face a total of nine charges.
Dumitru, aged 23, of Ermington Crescent, Birmingham, admitted stealing £462.96 from the Spar Store, Saundersfoot, and £220 from Best One, Milford Haven, on Saturday, February 22.
He also admitted attempting to steal cash from Tesco, Marks and Spencer, CK Stores and Eileen’s Premier Shop, all in Haverfordwest, and Pennar Post Office, on the same day.
Muntean, aged 24, of Waldeck Road, Luton, admitted attempting thefts at CK Stores in Milford Haven and Lamphey, also on February 22.
The pair were remanded in custody ahead of a sentencing hearing yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon.
Following the initial hearing on Monday, Chief inspector Louise Harries said: “While we don’t see this type of crime often in our area it is important that retailers are aware and make sure that staff are vigilant so that such offending is prevented.
“As soon as police became aware extensive enquiries were conducted leading to the arrest and charge of two men.”
