A MAN has been jailed after bringing heroin worth more than £130,000 into Carmarthenshire.

Aled Wyn Samuel was sentenced to four years and eight months for two charges of possession with intent to supply after driving to Newport 47 times in two months to pick up the class A drug.

The 50-year-old, of Parc Pendre, in Kidwelly, admitted the offences at Swansea Crown Court and was sentenced on Monday, June 3.

Judge Paul Thomas commented on and praised officers involved for the volume of work and quality of the evidence file built in a short space of time.

He also commented on the positive message the work carried out during the Covid-19 crisis sends to the local community.

DS Andrew Clatworthy said: “Our enquiries showed that Samuel was making regular journeys to Newport, where he picked up approximately an ounce of heroin on each occasion. This is in excess of 1,000 grams, valued at £133,000.

“Our attention was brought to this activity earlier this year, and we worked swiftly with a number of departments in the force to disrupt his criminal behaviour.

“Despite being arrested in May, Samuel was not deterred, and continued to collect heroin while on police bail using a different car.

“He was quickly arrested for a second time and charged to appear at court, where we were pleased to see he received a jail sentence of 56 months.”
