GARDENS across Cardigan are looking at their best as green-fingered residents spend time pampering their plants during the coronavirus lockdown.
And now town mayor Cllr Clive Davies wants to try to help people lift their lockdown blues with a competition to highlight people’s work.
“Most of us are spending more time than usual at home so we’ve put together a new competition which celebrates all the gorgeous gardens across cardigan,” sad Cllr Davies.
“We are asking everyone to get off the sofa and dust off their gardening gloves.
“You don’t even need a garden to take part – hanging baskets, window boxes and even a pot on your doorstep counts. It’s time to get working on your own green slice of heaven be it big or small.”
All you need to do is take a picture of your garden looking at its best, write down a few words about why you love your green space and email the photo, along with the description to caru@trefaberteifi.cymru, along with your name, age and address.
The competition is split into five categories, which will be selected by an independent panel of three judges.
The categories are
- Container garden (hanging baskets, front step/patio planters and window/balcony boxes.
- Individual house plant
- Edible garden /produce
- Junior garden in a tray (open to those aged 15 and under)
- Most creative garden
Winners in each category will be awarded £50 from the Cardigan Mayor’s fund to present to a charity of their choice.
Further competitions are also being lined up for later in the summer and Cllr Davies added: "It’s just something to help donate to local charities and involving the community in a positive and fun way.”
