COSTCUTTER Football League club Newcastle Emlyn could wave goodbye to the local league and join the Football Association of Wales new tier system.

Having already tasted life at a higher level in the Welsh League, the ambitious Teifi Valley club has applied to the FAW to be included in Tier Four West for next season.

With quality facilities at Parc Emlyn, the Reds would quite easily meet all the criteria necessary for acceptance.

Confirming the development, an Emlyn official said “We have applied for membership and hopefully we will be successful.”

The club recently appointed former Llandysul and Carno manager Gwynfor Edwards as the new supremo and there are rumblings that he has snapped up a few quality players in preparation for the start of next season, whenever that will be.

The Costcutter League Annual General Meeting is to be held on Tuesday, July 28 by means of Zoom video conferencing when the Emlyn application and any others are likely to be discussed. The AGM will be open to league officials and one member of each club.
