BOSSES from a beloved village pub have announced its closure.

The Railway Inn at Askam has closed its doors to customers following six years at the helm by the pub’s current bosses.

The closure was announced in an emotional social media post in which the pub paid tribute to customers.

It said: “This time six years ago we began our journey as The Railway Inn.

“It has been a laugh and a pleasure to serve you all."

The pub shut for the final time on Sunday night.

“We would like to thank our loyal customers who have followed us through the years and especially the last few weeks," the post said.

“Stay safe and look after each other.”

The pub, in Ireleth Road, was among a host of others that welcomed back drinkers with new measures designed to keep people safe during the coronavirus crisis.

It reopened earlier this month for the first time in half a year after being closed during lockdown.

The pub was previously put up for sale for £495,000, with listings saying the pub’s owners were due to retire.

A listing by property agents Kings Business said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to purchase a charming public house and sports bar with a long trading history and great opportunity for growth.

“The business occupies a prominent trading position located close to the train station and enjoys, especially through the summer months, a high level of foot fall due to the area it is located in.

“Walkers and cyclists as well as a local community give the business a good level of turnover from limited trading hours.

“The business also has darts and pool teams that have weekly fixtures and matches.

“The business boasts a loyal and extensive customer base from throughout the area."

It added: "This is an exciting opportunity to purchase a business with a fantastic reputation and an exciting future.”
