ATHERTON Colls failed to turn one point in to three while there were mixed fortunes for our sides in the North West Counties League at the weekend.

It’s all in our latest non-league round-up.

COLLS HAVE TO SETTLE FOR POINT

Atherton Colls boss Brad Cooke was frustrated his side could not turn one point into three as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Stalybridge Celtic.

Marcus Cusani saw his early goal cancelled out by a strike from Stalybridge’s Will Goodwin just before the half hour, with the keepers coming out on top in the second half of the Pitching In Northern Premier League Premier Division clash.

Cooke said: “I was disappointed with the first half performance, we looked tired and sloppy in possession.

“That being said, we still should have scored a couple more goals.

“Second half I thought we were more on the front foot and should have won the game, the amount of balls we got out wide and into the box but couldn’t get on the end of.

“We’re disappointed not to get the three points but on reflection a draw is probably a fair result.”

Colls host Bamber Bridge tonight (7.45pm) while elsewhere, Radcliffe’s game at Ashton United has been postponed due to Covid-19 concerns.

Lee Fowler’s men went down 2-1 at leaders Warrington on Saturday with Jean Louis Akpa-Akpro on target.

LR BOSS NOT IMPRESSED

Atherton LR boss Mark Robinson was not a happy man after seeing his side slip to a 2-0 defeat Chadderton on Saturday.

Second-half goals from Bradley Sullivan and Arron Scholes settled the North West Counties League First Division North clash in favour of the hosts meaning LR have lost their opening two games without scoring.

Their manager was less than impressed, not only with his side, but with the overall spectacle.

“I thought it was a poor 90 minutes to be honest,” Robinson said.

“Not just from us to be honest, I thought the football was poor and everything about was poor.

“The quality across the board was poor. It was uncharacteristic for some of them. Passes are going under people’s feet, passes are going astray. It’s not good enough.

“We played good football at times when we wanted to but we didn’t show it consistently enough.”

The game was ended early due to an injury to LR’s George Chadwick that left him with whiplash and concussion and needing a trip to A&E on Saturday.

“He’s got an elbow in the back of the head, which resulted in a free-kick to Chadderton bizarrely,” Robinson said post-match.

“Anything was possible today with the officials. He’s very concussed, very dizzy and was struggling a bit to be fair.”

LR next head to St Helens Town on Saturday looking to get off the mark.

Daisy Hill, who were without a game due to AFC Liverpool’s Covid-19 restrictions, are at Ashton Town this weekend.

BURY AFC head in to tonight’s derby clash with Prestwich Heys in fine form after four-goal hero Tom Greaves inspired them to a 6-2 victory over AFC Darwen.

Having not played since beating Steeton on the opening day of the season – with games against Holker Old Boys and Pilkington both postponed – AFC made up for lost time with a thumping win to move up to fifth place in North West Counties League First Division North.

The game was finely poised at 3-2 – with Darwen fighting back from 3-0 down – until Greaves scored three times in the final 18 minutes to take his tally to six goals in two games.
