Goodwick United 3 Narberth 0

FOOTBALL is a simple game. The team that takes their chances win, while the team that lets their opportunities go begging are left to rue what might have been.

And so it proved on Saturday at Phoenix Park.

Goodwick were clinical and ruthless in front of goal but Narberth failed to find a way past outstanding keeper Carl Woodhouse.

The Goodwick number one kept Raff Barnett, Harry Allen and Wayne Howells at bay with a series of classy saves.

And with Nigel Delaney bagging a brace and Lee Burrows also getting his name on the scoresheet, it turned out to be a fruitful afternoon for Sean O'Connor's troops.

The first-half ended goalless but both goalkeepers had to be at their best to keep the game at 0-0.

Allen's volley forced a flying save on Woodhouse's right, while at the other end Delaney's left foot drive was well pounced upon by Narberth's Adi Jones.

But the loyal Goodwick fans didn't have to wait too long in the second period for the breakthrough. A short-corner routine was worked to Dan Williams and his low, hard cross was touched home by Burrows.

Goal number two soon followed and it was a sweet finish from the cultured boot of Delaney. Sub Steve Evans slipped him in and lashed his shot into the far corner with Jones well and truly beaten.

Woodhouse first denied Barnett and then Jamie Bradfield from halving the deficit. And with time running out Delaney fired in a shot that Jones got hands to but couldn't keep out.

Goodwick continue their title challenge and could move level on points with leaders Monkton, if they win their three games in hand.
