Fishguard & Goodwick 14 Whitland 57
Whitland gained their expected KO Cup victory against underdogs Fishguard and Goodwick at The Moor.
Current youth player Rhydian Thomas set up the first Whitland score as he strode up the right touchline and found Randall Williams alongside him, the No 8 slipping the scoring pass inside to skipper Phil Morgan.
Then Aled Davies and Eifion Roberts combined to put Gavin Morris over for Whitland - but Fishguard showed real grit with a superbly controlled forward drive from which captain Evan Davies emerged with the touch down and Gerwyn Hughes converted.
Carwyn Davies' lineout skills set up a try for Gareth Williams and The Borderers scored their fourth try near half time when another youth player, Daniel Mason, powered through. Aled Davies converted both scores.
Home No 9 Graham Davies joined his brother on the score sheet after the interval with a cracking individual try which Hughes converted - but hopes of a revival were soon quashed when Rawhiti Williams was powered over the line by the rest of the Whitland pack before Aled Davies added the extra points.
Fishguard's Simon James caught the eye with his tremendous work-rate, but they were unable to stem the tide as Aled Davies waltzed clear for two tries, converting the second from in front of the posts.
Whitland team coach Domenico Setaro came on for a little cameo performance and might have scored from his first touch, but gave the scoring pass to Rhydian Thomas instead - and Eifion Roberts rounded things off with a late try, again both converted by Aled Davies.
