Pembroke 41 St Clears 0 OSSIE Boswell's red army remain in pole position in division five west with the 41 point thumping of mid-table St Clears.

The die-hard Scarlets' fans that braved the wind and driving rain saw flying wing Huw Purser bag a hat-trick of tries in the slippery conditions. But it wasn't until the second-half that the floodgates opened with five of the six tries coming with the wind at their backs.

The weather certainly made ball-handling difficult and the game was stop-start in the first quarter as both sides got used to the conditions.

But, playing into the strong wind, the Scarlets gradually gained more control on the game. The Pembroke pack out-scrummaged their Saints opponents and set up several good platforms to spread the play.

The breakthrough came when Adrian Heath released his backs and, as Jonathan Davies would say, it was "bang, bang, bang, thank you very much."

Winger Gareth Lewis was the man to benefit, out pacing his man and sliding in at the corner.

Outside-half Phil Williams was wide with the difficult conversion but made up for the miss with a well-struck three-pointer to put his side eight points up at the break.

And in the second half, with the wind at their backs, there was only one side in it.

Skipper Richard Morris marshalled the scrum well and with Sandy Allen and Phil Greenwod in particular making several marauding runs, Saints were always on the back foot.

Full back Steve Lewis was given several opportunities to hit the line at pace and he arrived perfectly on time to slide over for one of the second half's five scores.

Purser was the main beneficiary, crossing three times to round off flowing moves.

Next week Pembroke face Pembrokeshire rivals Llangwm in what promises to be a massive match at the top of the league.

The Wasps are currently in second place and will be looking to cut Pembroke's lead as the season builds up to a very interesting finale.
