YOUTH teams from all over District H descended on Pembroke's Crickmarren Ground for the 5th annual youth 7's festival.

The weather was dry and sunny, and it promised to be another exciting evening with the teams competing for the 'Jimmy Hulbert Memorial Trophy' and the 'Pembroke RFC Plate'.

Teams taking part: Fishguard and Goodwick, Haverfordwest A, Haverfordwest B, Llangwm, Milford Haven, Narberth, Pembroke A, Pembroke B, Pembroke Dock Harlequins and Tenby.

Llangwm, Milford Haven, Pembroke B and Tenby won through to the semi-final of the Plate competition with Tenby beating Llangwm 20 points to 12 and Milford Haven beating Pembroke B 29 points to 5. The final of the Plate between Milford Haven and Tenby was a hard-fought game with Tenby eventually winning by 35 points to 10.

The teams winning through to the semi-final of the Cup competition included Haverfordwest A, Narberth, Pembroke A and Pembroke Dock Harlequins. Narberth beating PD Harlequins by 36 points to 0 and Haverfordwest A narrowly beating Pembroke A by 10 points to 5. In the final of the cup, Narberth's very talented team treated spectators to a feast of running, passing rugby and clearly outplayed the Haverfordwest A team and when the final whistle was blown, Narberth were the victors by 50 points to 0.

John Davies of Llanelli RFC, a long-standing friend of Pembroke Club and supporter of the Youth 7's since its' inauguration. He presented the 'Jimmy Hulbert Memorial Trophy' and winner of the 'Player of the Festival trophy' was chosen by the four referees and presented by John to Aled Thomas of Narberth.

Referees: Keith Davies, Eirian Edwards, Andrew Miles and Adrian Slade. The Festival organisers wish to thank everyone for their support and their presence at the festival, especially the players and the referees. Also thanks to those who provided sponsorship which enabled the event to be another success. Clare Lewis won two of the raffle prizes and there are other prizes waiting to be claimed at the Club.
