Narberth 58 Beddau 3

A superb second half display, where they amassed 45 points without response, saw Narberth gain their eighth league success on the trot as they eventually overwhelmed basement battlers Beddau at the Lewis Lloyd Ground, with fly half Simon Daniel having something of a field day as he grabbed a personal haul of 33 points as well as helping others score tries after they had sucked out the resistance of the Mid Glamorgan club.

Daniel scored three tries, two penalties and six conversions but again this was a solid team performance which keeps alive The Otters' hopes of a top-seven spot and a place in the new set-up for next season.

Yet it was certainly a low-key start as coach Keith Eaton cannily rested several key players and gave a chance of a run-out to other eager squad members.

The Otters made several uncharacteristic handling errors in the opening quarter and with Andrew Carter, Neil Lewis and Steve Cole all covering well for Beddau it wasn't until the 21st minute that the Otters took the lead, when Daniel slotted a simple penalty.

Beddau replied after 31 minutes with a penalty from centre Scott Perry but Narberth led 13-3 at the interval as good handling by the forwards allows prop Andrew Howell to cross, Daniel adding the conversion and a penalty. Narberth started the second half with a bang as Simon Davies, Meurig Daniel and Gareth Bennett foraged well as four tries came in the third quarter. Daniel was the instigator as he made a 2nd minute break and although he slipped he managed to off-load to Nick Jones, the full-back taking three tacklers over the line with him before Daniel added the extra points.

Daniel then slipped through after a break on the 22 to score a try which he also converted - and a superb catch and run from the 22 by Craig Hawkins set the gritty hooker in for an opportunist corner try which Daniel did well to convert.

Coach Eaton made four changes with the game won and within five minutes of his arrival, Elgan Vittle sliced through to round off a move initiated by Adrian Killa, although for once Daniel missed the conversion. But Daniel quickly made amends with a corner try of his own, followed by his hat-trick score from a neat break.

Daniel Gravell rounded off the scoring for the Otters with a clinical finish and Daniel appropriately applied the coup de grace to extend Narberth's excellent run of victories as reward for another strong team display.
