A TEENAGE boy from Milford Haven was killed in a tragic crash on the M4 near Swansea this morning.

Seventeen-year-old Morgan Power, a former Milford Haven School student, was travelling with his father, Karl, along the motorway at around 6am.

Karl Power is understood to be in a critical condition in hospital.

Milford Haven Golf Club issued the following statement on Facebook: "The club is shocked and saddened to learn of the tragic accident this morning which has resulted in one of our well known and popular members being admitted to hospital with serious injuries.

"We await further news on Karl Power and wish him a speedy recovery.

"The club also extends our heart felt sympathies and condolences to the family who sadly and tragically lost their teenage son Morgan in the accident."

Earlier today, South Wales Police said: "We are investigating a fatal road traffic collision which happened on the M4 in Swansea earlier today.

"The incident happened at 6.13am on the eastbound carriageway between junctions 45 and 46.

"A male passenger of a Peugeot Partner van has suffered fatal injuries. The driver has been taken to Morriston Hospital.

"South Wales Police family liaison officers are supporting next of kin at this time.

"As a result of the collision the eastbound carriageway remains closed while recovery of the vehicle and scene investigation continues. Diversions are in place.

"An investigation into the circumstances of the collision is continuing and any witnesses who may have seen the collision or the events leading up to it and were unable to stop at the time are asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting occurrence number 1600049047."

Pictures of a van on fire on the motorway appeared online early today.

Lanes were closed for several hours, with huge delays in the area.

This evening, hundreds of friends gathered at the Rath in Milford Haven to let off fireworks in memory of Morgan, and release sky lanterns.
