THE President of the National Library of Wales has toured the new cultural facility currently under construction on Haverfordwest riverside.
Rhodri Glyn Thomas visited the new County Library, Gallery and Information Centre in the company of local County Councillors and the Town Mayor.
The flagship facility – designed in-house by Pembrokeshire County Council - is due to open later this year.
In partnership with the National Library of Wales, the gallery section will be one of the few locations in Wales able to display objects of immense importance and significance to the nation.
It is anticipated that this feature will draw both tourists and local people into the centre of the town and provide regeneration benefits
Haverfordwest Town Council has already agreed funding which will enable the facility – which includes a coffee shop - to open all day on Saturdays.
The project is the result of a partnership between the county council, the National Library of Wales and the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority.
Funding for the scheme includes £544,150 from the Welsh Government to develop the new County Library and £90,000 towards the gallery fit-out from the Wolfson Foundation - a charity supporting science, medicine, the arts and education.
WB Griffiths and Son Limited of Haverfordwest are the contractors.
