A HUGE search of the River Cleddau is currently underway involving fire, police, coastguard and RNLI boats and helicopters.

The Western Telegraph understands that the search was sparked following reports of a swimmer entering the water near Neyland Yacht Club.

Initial reports claim that the missing man was with a group of people on the pontoon at Neyland marina.

A bystander at the scene told the Western Telegraph that he believed the man had dived into the water, but failed to reappear.

The incident has sparked a major search operation with two inshore lifeboats launched from Angle at approximately 4pm.

The lifeboats have been joined by at least two police boats and another from the Mid and West Wales Fire Service.

The coastguard helicopter is also at the scene.

Numerous emergency services personal are also scouring both banks of the river and monitoring the situation from the Cleddau bridge.
