A north Pembrokeshire town is shining a light on the awesome achievement of iconic welsh cyclist Geraint Thomas.
Newport’s Norman castle has been illuminated in the colours of the Tour de France winner’s jersey in tribute to Thomas’ recent triumph in the ultimate bike race.
Cllr Paul Harries set the wheels in motion after he was approached by local resident Alun Davies with the idea of lighting up the castle in celebration of Thomas’ win.
The castle has been lit up with kind permission of castle leaseholders Liza and Robin Watson, and the support of the town council.
Cllr Harries said: “I think it looks fantastic. Electrician Neil Wilmott went above and beyond setting it up.
“It’s nice for Newport to do something to recognise Geraint Thomas’ achievement.”
