OIL has come ashore at beaches around the Milford Haven Waterway.

An unknown quantity of oil leaked from Valero Refinery yesterday at around midnight and has now been spotted on the beach at Dale.

Milford Mercury:

A team of workers have been seen putting out booms - temporary floating barriers - at Sandy Haven, but this is believed to be as a precaution.

An HM Coastguard spokesman said on Facebook: "Please avoid the beach in Dale village and the West Side of the Gann Estuary. Sticky oil is coming ashore.

"Members of the public and particularly dogs should avoid the areas."

Natural Resources Wales confirmed 'globules' of oil had washed onto Dale beach, but there has been no mention of wildlife being affected.

NRW is due to meet with the Port of Milford Haven later today to assess the situation.

Milford Mercury:

Members of the public are asked to avoid any beached oil if they discover it, particularly if they have dogs, and contact the Natural Resources Wales incident hotline on 03000 653000 if they become aware of any pollution on shore.
