ONE of Pembrokeshire's biggest event returns this summer.

The county-wide Fish Week festival will return in 2019, across nine days in June.

With more than 100 events all over the county – from seashore safaris to fresh fish tastings, cookery demonstrations and much more – the festival will have something for everyone, says Pembrokeshire County council.

It casts off with a fabulously fishy free family day at Milford Waterfront on Saturday, June 22, at a new location on the Mackerel Quay.

The closing event on June 30 will be a family fun day at Saundersfoot’s Harbour Festival.

The event will now be biennial and will return in 2021.

In 2015, the event was cancelled by Pembrokeshire County Council due to staff illness.

It later emerged that the festival had previously received money from the European Fisheries Fund, topped up by the Welsh Government, but changes meant it was no longer eligible for this £30,000 of support.

In its absence, the Port of Milford Haven held a scaled-down version of the festival which drew in more than 6,000 visitors over two days.

In 2017, the P1 powerboating event in Milford Haven forced the festival to find new moorings.

A 'showpiece' event instead took place in Lawrenny, followed by a family fun day at Scolton Manor, sponsored by the Western Telegraph.

Despite 2018 being 'Year of the Sea' across Wales, the county council said it would not be hosting the festival, instead opting to take a year out to generate sponsorship and support.

It was also announced that the festival would be given a new name for 2019, but the authority appears to have dropped this idea in the interim.

Pembrokeshire Fish Week is co-ordinated by Pembrokeshire County Council’s Food Development Team, part-funded by Welsh Government and supported by various organisations.
