A GIANT fish has washed up in Milford Haven, and will be on display for all to see in the coming weeks.

Bertie the Sea Bass, a fourteen by seven foot sculpture, has arrived at Mackerel Quay in Milford Waterfront, where he will be on display for 11 weeks.

Designed by local sculptor Gideon Peterson, Bertie is made from stainless steel and is filled with ‘beach clean’ plastic. Bertie is also solar powered, and lights up at night.

The sculpture was made for the Turn the Tide on Plastic project, which is led by Amroth and Saundersfoot Community Councils, with support from Arwain Sir Benfro, PLANED, and Valero.

Jonathan Monk, Environmental Manager, Port of Milford Haven commented: “Bertie the Sea Bass is a brilliant way to spread the message about how damaging plastic pollution can be in the marine environment. Our position in Milford Haven, and Pembrokeshire as a whole is unique. We have the only coastal national park, and are part of the Pembrokeshire Marine Special Area of Conservation. We are very proud to be hosting Bertie at Milford Waterfront.

Visitors and groups are welcome to come and see Bertie the Sea Bass from 6th February. Remember to use the hashtags #cleanseas and #loveMW if you are taking a picture of Bertie and we will share our favourites on our social media pages.
